What’s-er-Name
                      (a villanelle)

I love her dearly!   It would be a shame...
A tragedy, in fact, for me and you...
If any harm should come to What’s-er-Name.

Wise, gentle, loving... such a classy dame,
She cooks and cleans and writes and teaches too.
I love her dearly! It would be a shame

To disrespect, belittle or defame,
Or make my dearest What’s-er-Name be blue.
May no harm ever come to What’s-er-Name.

If fate should intervene or aught became
Of What’s-er-Name betimes.    What would I do?
I love her dearly! It would be a shame.

She was a vixen, Yes!... and hard to tame.
How sadder then... (for she was hell to woo)...
If any harm should come to What’s-er-Name.

To all the Heavens then would I exclaim,
“Cruel world!     Cruel world!   Adieu!   Adieu!   Adieu!”
I love her dearly! It would be a shame,
If any harm should come to What’s-er-Name.
